Chennai: Former MLA Sundaravel died in a road accident while on way to Chennai for an eye check-up from Tirupattur.
Sundaravel represented the Tirupattur constituency when he was in the AIADMK and is now with the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, led by T T V Dhinakaran. At present, he is the Tirupattur town secretary of the party.
Owing to an eye problem, he had fixed an appointment with a famous ophthalmologist in Chennai at 9 am. So, he started from Tirupattur at 5 am with his driver Veeramani at the wheel.
When they were at Vinnamangalam, near Ambur in Vellore district, on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway, the speeding car hit a container lorry. In the impact, the car got trapped under the container lorry.
Sundaravel, his wife Vijayalakshmi and driver Veeramani were crushed to death.
The police and fire service personnel had a tough time retrieving the bodies from the crumpled vehicle. Traffic on the highway was affected for a few hours owing to the accident.
