Chennai: Some provisions of Central government’s Draft National Education Policy (NEP) poses disadvantage to students in rural areas, said actor Suriya Sivakumar on Saturday.
The 43-year-old actor when taking part in an event, said that instead of providing equitable and quality education, NEP’s main focus was on entrance examinations and that people are angered and scared about this.
He further raised question on the haste shown in implementing the policy. He claimed that 30 crore students of the country would be affected, and some of the provisions would severely affect students living in rural areas.
Speaking on the three-language policy, the actor said he found it difficult in teaching third language to his children, and claimed that the policy would discourage students from going to schools.
