Chennai: Suriya’s remarks against draft National Education Policy won him the wrath of a few State Ministers and BJP leaders.

Surprisingly, Suriya found a support in actor Rajinikanth. Speaking at the audio launch of Kaapaan in Chennai Sunday, Rajinikanth said, “I completely endorse Suriya’s remarks on the issue. I am sure his voice would have reached Modi.”

Kaapaan, directed by KV Anand and produced by Lyca Internationals, saw its audio released at a gala event last evening.

Starring Suriya, Mohanlal, Arya in lead roles, the movie has music by Harris Jeyaraj. Speaking on the occasion, Rajinikanth heaped laurels on Suriya. He said, “I saw the other side of Suriya recently.” He added, “A few years ago, I was all set to do a film with KV Anand. Unfortunately it couldn’t take off. I missed the opportunity.”

Describing Mohanlal as one of the best actor in Indian cinema, Rajinikanth said, “I am eager to see his performance in Kaapaan.”

Throwing light on his forthcoming film Darbar, Rajinikanth, said, “It is shaping up well. My director AR Murugadoss is determined to give the best in my career.” Suriya, Mohanlal, music composer Harris Jeyaraj, filmmaker K V Anand among others spoke on the occasion.

It may be recalled that Suriya recently slammed the new Education Policy. He said that some of the provisions in it would disadvantage students in rural areas. The actor also pointed out that the policy’s key focus was on entrance examinations instead of providing equitable and quality education.

“Everyone is angered, anguished and scared about focus of the policy being only on conducting entrance exams and not in providing quality and equitable education for students,” he said. Questioning the haste shown in implementation of the policy, the actor said, “It is going to affect 30 crore students of the country.”

Meanwhile a section of BJP supporters said that Rajini’s remarks in support of Suriya was made in haste. He should have been careful, they add.
