On the occasion of Mahalaya Amavasya, thousands of devotees are flocking to the banks of the Kaveri River and the Agni Theertham sea in Rameswaram to perform sacred rituals and offer “Tarpanam” to their ancestors. Hindus observe water rituals during significant lunar phases, such as Aadi Amavasai, Thai Amavasai, and Mahalaya Amavasai, to appease the souls of their forefathers.
