Eco-friendly measures at Vandalur Zoo

In a bid to enhance visitor experience and promote environmental sustainability, Arignar Anna Zoological Park has introduced purified drinking water facilities across its premises. This initiative, part of the zoo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, aims to reduce the reliance on disposable plastic bottles by encouraging the use of reusable water bottles.
The inauguration ceremony was held with much enthusiasm and was led by Ashish Kumar Srivastava, Park Director, and Vishnu Khemani, Managing Director of Sharonply. The zoo has strategically installed purified drinking water stations at 12 locations to provide convenient access to clean drinking water for all visitors.
The initiative is a significant step towards minimizing plastic waste and ensuring a more eco-friendly experience for the millions of visitors who frequent the zoo annually. By providing easily accessible purified water, the zoo encourages guests to bring and use their own reusable bottles, thereby contributing to a reduction in single-use plastic consumption.
Deputy Director H. Dilip Kumar, Assistant Director P. Manikanda Prabhu, and other park officials were present at the event, reinforcing their commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. The officials highlighted the importance of such initiatives in preserving the environment and setting a positive example for other institutions.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing the visitor experience. We believe that small steps, like providing purified water stations, can lead to significant positive impacts on our environment,” said Ashish Kumar Srivastava during the inauguration.
Vishnu Khemani of Sharonply expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that supporting such initiatives aligns with their company’s CSR goals of promoting sustainability and environmental conservation.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park, known for its diverse wildlife and conservation efforts, continues to lead by example in adopting green practices. This new initiative is expected to not only provide a practical solution for visitors but also educate them on the importance of reducing plastic waste and protecting the environment.
