These days, the secular politicos, the super-secular minoritiy leaders and of course, the secular than thou media invariably begin their day with the invocation: Modi must go! And non performance of this ritual in whatever public forum that one finds himself in, be it Parliament or Prime Time, is automatically construed as an act of utmost barabarity, worse than even Modi β s alleged atrocities.
You either demand Modi β s resignation unequivocally or you are one of his ilk. Any attempt to even explain or highlight the other point of view, for whatever it is worth, is summarily dismissed by these seculars who have appointed themselves as the adjudicators of political correctness and morality after duly appropriating all the available mega-phones in the country.
Defending Modi is injurious to the nation βs secular health, runs the refrain of this secular mob who are now running amok in a frenzied fit to brand everyone in one mould or the other. But in their bid to make a Hitler out of Modi, each one of them has only ended up becoming a Goebbels himself instead.
No one who has got his heart in the right place could condone the happenings in Gujarat and it is not as if only the seculars are the sole merciful lot in this world. All the same it is difficult to believe that their oust-Modi-obsession is wholly justified and that once Modi is out, secular milk and honey would start flowing in Gujarat. In fact, it would be puerile to believe so. Sinister though it may seem, the Chief Minister β s actions or rather inaction, not to speak of Newtonesque reactions, have gained popular acclaim among the incensed majority, something that the seculars conveniently tend to overlook. If stating this fact is deemed justifying it, then so be it.
But missing it would tantamount to criminal negligence. The truth may be difficult to swallow, but if there could be any rationale for Modi β s continuance it is only the prospect of heightened violence that his removal may set off. His forced exit without regard for an alternative that guarantees peace would mean that not only the so-called communalists but even the secularists would have blood on their hands. The familiar rituals of President β s rule and elections would follow. And there are adequate indications about the outcome. All the Goebbelses would have scored yet another self-goal!
But that is their problem. What is really disconcerting in the present is an absolute lack of accountability as well as introspection amidst the voluble secular crowd in the political arena as well as in the media. It appears that since they feel it their bounden duty to highlight the excesses of the Modi regime, they themselves can resort to any excess. That is, their β s is a natural reaction to Modi β acts of omission and commission.
But when the PM or someone says that Gujarat riots are a reaction to Godhra there is universal condemnation. Even Newton is not spared and is exhumed to explain the context of his third law and how it is subverted by the likes of Modi! There seems to be no realisation of the four fingers pointing inwards. For instance, the vernacular press in Gujarat, it seems, have entirely different stories to say of the happenings in the state that run contrary to the impressions generated by the English press and TV.
But such revelations are of no consequence to the secular drum-beaters of the Stars and National Newspapers, not because they may not be palatable to their audiences but more owing to their own self-imposed reticence towards the majority community.
And these self-appointed custodians of Constitution, secularism, democracy and everything else, do not stop with that but go to the other extreme. They think nothing of interviewing a dictatorial Musharraf, head of an enemy country and articulating his eminently outrageous views under the cover of the all-encompassing umbrella of press freedom that knows no bounds. But the duly elected PM of their own country has to beg for their attention, let alone acclaim, and his views are rejected as rabid even without as much as cursory consideration.
Now if we may ask, why is an RSS-trained Vajpayee so loathsome to them while it is all fawning admiration for Pres Pervert Mush-Rough, the architect of Kargil and also the one who has just a few days back promised to nuke India if the need arose? Indeed, according to their strange secular logic even the ISI would be more acceptable to them than the Sangh Parivar! When it comes to defending secularism, the sanctity of the Constitution is invoked but when nation β s interest and image which are paramount are compromised by an overzealous interview of a jealous enemy, press freedom takes over.
Whatever the seculars say is deemed final and binding on the country for the simple reason that they are the noisiest and are savvy enough to hog the media limelight. But how are they justified in bringing the nation to a standstill simply because they believe that one man is culpable and that unless his head is taken, the country should know no peace?Their commitment to even that belief is dubious. The oust-Modi campaign may seemingly jell with the continuing orgy of violence in Gujarat, but still it has to be stated that the opposition β s obsession looks largely orchestrated.
The hollowness, artificiality and prejudice inherent in their ever increasing display of lung power is all too self evident.Their contrived concern for the suffering multitudes of Gujarat is too superficial to evoke any spontaneous support to their β crusade β ; rather one is inclined to deal with it with suspicion and circumspection because a common denominator of all these politicos is this Pavlovian tendency to warm themselves in such conflagrations and look for opportunities to advance their own interests.
This has been the undeniable trait of all these champions, empty vessels really but making the maximum noise to divert attention even as they get on with their scavenging. Modi, for them is a god-sent gift and it is they who need him more than the BJP does! For the Sonias and the other seculars, it is a much awaited respite from boredom, but unfortunately the nation has to pay for their recreation in the form of parliamentary time lost and absolute lack of governance.
Paralysing the nation β s governing body is no less an offence than the ones committed by the rioters who are holding the country to ransom in Gujarat. With due respects to the privilege of the honourable MPs to puncture Parliamentary proceedings day in day out, it must be stated that from what one sees of them, it is pretty obvious that the riotous crowd on the streets of Ahmedabad are in perfect sync with the belligerent leaders who preside over the country β s fate.
There is little difference between the two mobs, in intent, action, behaviour or effect. Indeed, it appears that the country will be best governed when Parliament is not in session! At least, that would be one mob less to contend with!
