A strange, sinister and self-defeating spectacle is now on show: ‘Let LeT be; first fix NaMo’, is the reigning credo of the rulers and a band of self-styled secular, liberal intelligentsia. To them, it does not seem to matter if terrorists thrive so long as Narendra Modi is kept in check. The benefit of doubt and bleeding hearts that the former evoke is matched only by the paranoia and partisan posturings of those against the latter.
As expected the Congress leads the pack that has set out to hunt down ‘communal elements’ in the polity. And in this chase, it has co-opted an assortment of activists, a slew of
sensation-hungry media outfits, an ever-eager cabal of scribes and also rank bigots and casteists, all passing muster under the lofty banner of secularism. It is no surprise that this jittery group will spontaneously bare its fangs at the very mention of Modi. But that they would not mind even compromising national security is a chilling revelation, nay, reality.
The CBI now says the Ishrat Jehan encounter was fake. The IB thinks otherwise and stands by its action. This orchestrated hair-splitting between the country’s premier investigation agencies is being cleverly exploited by the anti-Modi lobby. But is the fakeness or otherwise of the encounter the core concern here? All the smart, secular chaps are somehow silent on the question of whether Ishrat Jehan is a terrorist or at least, terror suspect. The Home Minister, to this question, says, ‘he shall be taking efforts to find that out’. Why does he not make bold to certify that the girl was not a terrorist? After all, if the encounter was fake, I.Jehan, by secular and Human Rights logic, must also be a fake terrorist! Also, the LeT, that first owned up the young lady and has since been flip flopping, can always be sought out for guidance.
Well, Shinde can take all the time he wants, but can anti-terror squads afford to be slack when confronted by telltale evidence of a terror attack, as was the case with Ishrat? Does the fakeness of an encounter mitigate the crime and vindicate the encounter victim? How do we get over the paradox of prevention and post-mortem if the only way to prove terror intent is by allowing terror to take place? Don’t we already have many such deadly demonstrations of alternative realities where terrorists did escape encounters-that-never-were? Indeed, if the nation is confronted by a choice between the margins of error of anti-terror squads and terrorists, who should get the maximum lattitude?
The Modi-phobia of the rulers touched ridiculous levels after the Bodh Gaya terror. Cong’s official loose cannon, Digvijay Singh, quickly connected the incident to Modi’s attack on Nitish and declared: ‘Non BJP Governments, Beware!’ Open and shut! In one snipe, Cong’s verbal encounter-specialist felled the mighty Modi and what remains is just the formal investigation and of course, the legal process! So, the ones who really committed the heinous act got an unsolicited exoneration within hours but probably much to their chagrin. The Indian Mujahideen, that has not only claimed credit but also promised more bloodshed, is now at pains tweeting its terror credentials to a regime that is not even looking its way! After all, has not India’s war on terror been turned into a war on Modi instead? Is not Modi the single greatest ‘threat’ to national security than all the Ishrats, LeTs, IMs, JeMs and even prospective terrorists combined?
The Congress and its cohorts are playing a dangerous game. Their all-blind political poker is making the nation pay dearly. Gujarat’s growth story, the lone economic beacon in a bleak scenario, instead of being projected globally, is being undermined, by none less than the country’s FM! Modi, the proven mascot of good and clean governance that defies rest of India, is on the contrary being sullied in every possible way. Foreign regimes are allowed to sit in judgement over a legitimate ‘Indian’ PM- candidate and worse, IMFLs, Indian Made Foreign Leaders, and their compatriots are deemed deserving of another chance to loot and scoot.
But corruption, mis-governance and economic stagnation apart, the Cong, in its sycophantic zeal to protect its dynastic bosses from a feared Modi wave, is laying the nation bare to terrorists. After all, there is hardly a gun to their heads now!
