Chennai: The nation expressed puzzlement after the data leakage of TRAI Chairman, RS Sharma. At a time when privacy breach is making waves, Symantec Corporation, has expanded its services by establishing a Security Operations Center (SOC) here. The newly-established SOC according to the cyber security firm is the second largest in the world.
Addressing media personnel, senior director, cyber security services, Asia Pacific and Japan, Symantec, Peter Sparkes, said, “The combination of right talent and accessibility to people is the prime reason for setting up a SOC. The facility currently employs 700 and 140 of them are highly skilled professionals are to take up the SOC operations.”
The SOC is said to cater the needs of the global audience with advanced technology. The company plans to scale up the work force to 200 in the next few years.
“Owing to the multi-faceted nature of cyber threats that the country poses, a combination of technology, expertise and intelligence is needed to fix the threats,” said executive vice president and general manager, cyber security services, Symantec, Samir Kapuria.
Commenting on India’s position in the cyber security index, Chief – Cyber Security, PMO, Government of India, Gulshan Rai, said, “India currently holds the 23rd position in the UN security cyber index and we plan to be within the top ten in 2018.”
National Informatics director general Neeta Verma, Imagine Panajji Smart City Development Ltd MD and CEO Swayan Chaudhri and Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society, CEO, Alex Paul Menon were also present.
