Danseuse in Chennai suburb tells more about her passion

Chennai: Meet Sridevi Nathan, a multi-talented Bharatanatyam artiste, residing at Kalyana Kandhasamy Street, Madipakkam in the city suburb has been into dancing from when she was seven-years-old.

Sridevi who is currently pursuing her bachelors degree in commerce has been performing shows across India and overseas in recent times as her rapport grew with time.

“I am learning Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music from my guru Lakshmi Ganesh. She is my role model. So far, I have completed three grades in dance course,” said Sridevi.

She said that she started doing shows after her learning music. “So far, I have staged more than 100 solo and as well as group stage performances in India and as well as abroad. Among them, my performances at Natyanjali at Chidambaram and Thiruvarur, Shirdi Saibaba Temple, Amar Seva Sangam in Ayikudi, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, Shri Padmanbhaswamy Temple at Thiruvananthapuram won me accolades,” she added.

When asked about honours she has been bestowed with, Sridevi said,“I was honoured with Natya Sudaroli, Natya Vinodini, Abhinaya Shree Mala and Gana Bhajana Ratna titles and Balasaraswati award from Shree Raagam Fine Arts.”

Not only does she dance, Sridevi has other talents too. She secured 98 per cent in her State Board exams and also secured sixth place at the State-level chess tournament held in 2010.

“I have two dreams, which I wish to fulfill in the near future. First is to become a renowned Chartered Accountant. The second is to start a dance school for deserving students. I am working towards both,” she concluded.
