Chennai: The police chased and apprehended two mobile phone snatchers within a few minutes of the offence being committed at Mint Street here last night.
A team attached to Flower Bazaar police station under inspector Abdul Kader and sub-inspectors Ramesh and Vadivelu, were returning to home after the day’s work, at Kandasamy Street.
Then, the men in khaki spotted a trio on a motorcycle snatching a cellphone from a youth, who was later identified as Saravanan, 21, of Mint Street. The policemen chased and nabbed the two culprits.
“One accused tried to evade us by entering the Government Hospital premises. Another one took to the narrow stretches to escape,” the police said.
The accused were later identified as Abhimanyu, 21, and Santosh Kumar, 20.
The police are trying to trace Aravind, who is part of the gang. It was revealed that Saravanan came out of the Government Hospital to buy dinner for his sister being treated in the hospital.
The arrested duo was remanded and sent to prison.
