Tirunelveli: A 32-year-old man was arrested for hurling a petrol bomb at his wife’s house here, allegedly irked over receiving a divorce notice from her, police said.
Police said the accused Saravanan of Tuticorin, who got married in February this year, was an alcoholic and frequently quarreled with his wife.
Unable to put up with the torture she was subjected to by Saravanan, his wife had filed for a divorce recently, they said. On Saturday night, Saravanan had gone to his wife’s house in Vannarapettai here in an inebriated state and allegedly hurled a petrol bomb on it.
Two motorcycles parked in the house were damaged in the fire, police said. However, the accused managed to escape even as the people in the neighbourhood gathered.
Based on a complaint, police arrested him yesterday.
