Hoax bomb threat to cops on I-Day


Chennai: The city police control room received a hoax call alleging that a bomb would explode at Fort St George this morning where the official Independence Day celebrations took place.

According to the police, the call was made to the police control room at 7.50 am, claiming that a bomb would go off at the Secretariat. The call was made an hour before Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was scheduled to arrive.

A police official said, “The call was made threatening that a bomb would explode. We passed on the information to all officers and the phone call has been recorded and inquiry is on.”

Police combed the entire venue thoroughly and confirmed that the call was a hoax.

The programmes went on as scheduled. Efforts are on to trace the caller’s identity.
