Chennai: “Kanaa is a small project. We have invested huge money and if the film is accepted and makes profit, then I am game to produce another quality film featuring newcomers,” said actor-producer Sivakarthikeyan.
Speaking at the audio launch of his maiden production venture ‘Kanaa,’ Sivakarthikeyan said, “Kanaa is world’s first women cricket based film. It is about a young girl from an interior village, who wants to make it big in the sport.”
Directed by lyricist Arunraja Kamarajah, the movie has music by Dhibu Nina Thomas.
Aishwarya Rajesh and Sathyaraj play lead roles. Sivakarthikeyan added, “Whenever Arun Raja sent me his lyrical works and songs, I constantly told him to not leave his film making dream. I ignited Arun by asking him to work on cricket based film and he came up with the idea of women cricket. At first, I told him that he should convince a producer and only later announced the news that I will be producing the film.”
“I should also thank Sathyaraj sir for accepting the film. Only because of Sathyaraj sir’s presence, the film got a majestic feel. As Aishwarya Rajesh said, she did not know how to play cricket but later trained hard because the climax portion deals with international cricket.”
Aishwarya Rajesh said, “I should thank Sivakarthikeyan for producing a heroine centric film.”
“My schedules for Kanaa were hectic. I practised cricket six hours a day, hit the gym and shot for the film in between. I practised under three different coaches as the story is about how a woman trains to become a cricketer. Sathyaraj plays my dad and the story revolves around us.”
Sathyaraj, Dhibu Thomas, Aruraja Kamarajah also spoke on the occasion. Sivakarthikeyan also announced that his next production venture will be directed by popular YouTube team ‘Blacksheep,’ and Rio of Saravanan Meenatchi fame will play the lead role.
