Chennai: A new flyover connecting Nesapakkam and Nandambakkam in the city across Adyar river is proposed to be built soon.
The work is expected to begin in six months with an estimated budget of Rs 360 crore.
Once the construction is over, officials say it will reduce traffic congestion in the area.
ALL-IN-ONE STRETCH
Vehicles coming from Nesapakkam pass through Bharathiyar Main Road, Kamaraj Salai, Ramapuram, Thiruvalluvar Salai and MGR Garden to reach Nandambakkam and Manapakkam.
As a result there are traffic jams at Ramapuram and Mount-Poonamalle stretch during peak hours.
Last year, in order to connect Nesapakkam, Anna Main Road and Lake View Road, a 300-meter long link road was built at a cost of Rs 2.41 cr.
Following this, Bharathiyar Main Road and Kaanu Nagar Main Road were converted into 60-feet stretches. Now, the new flyover will start from Kaanu Nagar to Nandambakkam across Adyar river.
THIRD FLYOVER
In addition to MGR flyover in Porur and overbridge at Manapakkam, this overpass will be the third major bridge that will be constructed in this area to reduce traffic chaos.
OTHER PLANS
A new footpath will be laid across the military land in Burma Nagar. According to officials, the construction works are planned in a way that it will not affect public life.
They have also ensured that no environmental resources will be affected due to this work and advanced technologies will be adopted by engineers.
GOOD DAYS AHEAD
After the flyover comes into use, traffic congestion between Ramapuram and Mount-Poonamalle High Road will be reduced effectively. Motorists can also experience smooth travel with this.
RESIDENTS REJOICE
“This extended path will definitely reduce traffic snarls in Porur,” says Kanagaraj, a motorist from Ramapuram.
“We welcome this. However, the city has lost a huge green cover, so we request officials to make sure no trees are cut during the construction,” says Sneha from Porur.
