Chennai: One of the most happening places in Nungambakkam, is certainly Kailash Kitchen, so to speak.

A haven for momo lovers and enthusiasts of Tibetan cuisine, it is located in a small dingy alley, that can be easily missed if you are not a regular.

“The place is extremely affordable. Apart from these staple momos, their soups and starters are yummy and lip-smacking,” says Jenefer Monica, a food blogger.

The small outlet which can seat upto 10-12 people, is a favourite among many in the locality.

Speaking about their shop, one of the staff here says,”Every dish prepared is flavoursome and authentic. The momos are of three kinds- vegetable, chicken and beef. Many come in for one of these. Even though there are many places that sell similar dishes in the area, we have a loyal customer base. Most of them come for takeaway. Apart from the momos, the ingredients for the chutney are sourced from regions of Tibet and Bhutan. We also have chefs who have come down to serve the people here.”

When asked about their other hot selling dishes, he replies that people drop in for their soups and noodles on cold evenings.

“It is only recently that people have fallen for the simple dish of momos. These white steamed or fried dumplings filled with vegetables or meat reminds one of spring rolls, but it is much lighter and the taste is equally, if not more delicious. When my friends suggested this place for a get together, I did not realise then that I would fall in love with their food. I later tried momos in other places, but the taste has not appealed to me like that of here,” says a regular here.

Kailash Kitchen is located near Choolaimedu signal and is open from afternoon to evening 6 pm. Regulars state that the best time to visit would be around 3 pm.
