Chennai: Scattered rainfall is forecast for Chennai and the rest of Tamilnadu for the next 24 hours. According to the Met Department, the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified.

Chennai received 4 cm of rain from last night till this morning, leading to waterlogging in many areas.

Though the sky was clear in the morning, the intense rain overnight inundated city roads. As a result, there were traffic jams at almost all key stretches of the city during the morning peak hour.

For example, despite the diversion at Pallavaram junction, vehicles piled up till the flyover on the south.

In the same way, traffic was heavy at Meenambakkam, Alandur, Guindy, etc. as also at Vadapalani 100 Feet Road and Anna Salai.

A Met official said, “Southwest monsoon winds are moderate-to-strong over the Bay of Bengal. So, the low pressure area which formed over the bay has become more marked. In the wake of this, in the next 24 hours, moderate-to-heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamilnadu and Puducherry especially over the coastal and central regions. In Chennai, the sky condition will be generally cloudy with light rainfall in some areas.”
