Content is king, says Pariyerum Perumal fame Kathir

Chennai: “I cannot do a movie like Pariyerum Perumal again. It demanded so much of effort,” said actor Kathir.
Shot to fame playing Vijay Sethupathi’s brother in Vikram Vedha, Kathir is the talk of the town today for Pariyerum Perumal, an anti-caste movie starring him in the lead role, has opened big this weekend. Speaking to Talk Media, Kathir shares his experience working in the movie besides his forthcoming films and future plans.

EXCERPTS FROM THE INTERVIEW

AS TRANSGENDER IN SIGAI

I play a transgender in Sigai. Although the duration of this character is less in the movie, it will create much impact among the audience. I want to talk a lot about my character but it would ruin the surprise factor. It is a movie that will always remain close to my heart. Plans are on to release the movie next month.

ACTOR’S DELIGHT

Pariyerum Perumal gave me enough opportunity to showcase my acting skills. As an actor, I think I gave my best. It is heartening to see people appreciate my performance in the film. I had romance, comedy and action to do. All credit should go to my director Mari Selvaraj. He extracted the best from all the artistes.

“CONTENT COMES FIRST”

I am not against commercial movies. But I go for scripts where content is the king. I want my movies to create an impact in people’s mind. They should talk about issues affecting the society.

FORTHCOMING VENTURES

I am waiting for Sigai to get released. There is a movie called Chathru, which is almost complete. I am also currently working on three other projects that are in various stages of production

ON SUCCESS & FAILURES

I take things as it comes. It is never easy to establish a place for yourself in the industry if you do not have a cinema background. For me quality matters the most than quantity.
