Chennai PHC centre for needy celebrates inauguration day


Chennai: In 1953, a tall and bespectacled man from West Mambalam dreamt of affordable healthcare for the disadvantaged in the city.

Not only did his wish get fulfilled the same year, the institute has also grown to be one of the most popular medical centres in the city over the course of time.

Honouring the late MC Subramanyam who founded Public Health Centre (PHC) at Lake View Road, the management celebrated the inauguration day with a host of programmes in the centre premises recently.

A press release said, a special pooja was performed at Bala Vinayagar temple situated here which was attended by trustees S Seetharaman, S Sampath, president and medical director, Dr MK Srinivasan, Velukudi Thothatri Iyenger, former secretary, K Prasad Rao and R Kannan, vice president and secretary respectively and other committee members of the centre.

Also, a modernised casualty ward named as LVelukudi Thothathri Iyengar Charitiesl was also inaugurated by trustees Sampath and S Seetharaman. Thothathri Iyengar who has been associated with PHC right from its inception and served in various capacities, made regular donations for the centre, the release added.
