Chennai: The Arumughaswamy Commission, probing the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, is likely to seek extension of two more months to complete the investigation process and submit the final report.
The State government already extended the term of Arumughaswamy Commission by four months in June.
Also, it is said the commission will be writing to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs seeking an explanation on why NSG protection was removed for Jayalalithaa after she was admitted to the hospital.
In a related development, doctors Subramaniyam, Hegde, Ravikumar and Swaminathan, who treated Jayalalithaa, will be cross-examined by V K Sasikala’s counsel tomorrow.
Former principal secretary to then Governor, Ramesh Chand Meena, former employees of Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence and nurses who attended on her in the hospital will also be cross-examined in the coming days.
Jayalalithaa passed away 5 December 2016 after being hospitalised for 75 days. In September 2017, the State government had constituted the probe panel under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, mandating it to inquire into the circumstances leading to Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation on 22 September 2016, and treatment provided by the hospital till her demise.
Several persons, including present Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his followers, had earlier raised suspicions about the circumstances leading to Jayalalithaa’s death.
Recently, Justice S M Subramaniam of the Madras High Court expressed concern over the delay in the progress of inquiry commissions.
