Chennai: The IndianOil team coordinated with NDRF Senior Commandant Rekha Nambiar and airport authorities to deliver 5 kl of SKO (kerosene) filled in 25 barrels, along with test certificate and sealing certificate, at Meenambakkam International Airport for airlifting to Indonesia for rescue operations.
A press release said the fuel was packed in the required hermetically sealed, double-walled barrels, and was delivered with completion of mechanical sealing and stenciling of product specifications on the containers.
“With no facility for barrel filling at Korukkupet terminal, the team overcame operational challenges to fill the barrels in the positioned truck with completion of sealing and stenciling requirements,” the release added.
IndianOil head office, ED I/C (supplies), P K Das, said, “Receiving the request on a national holiday on 2 October, we immediately sprang into action realising manpower and product availability challenges.”
IndianOil, executive director (Tamilnadu State office), R Sitharthan, said, “The mode of transport dictated backwork processes for us. Airlifting barrels of flammable fuel product required airworthiness certification in addition to packaging the product as per specifications from the authorities.”
