Chennai: Seva Mela is back. This time, in our very own local;ity. The yearly event is run by CIOSA, an NGO that initiated the ‘Joy of Giving’ programme, where the main aim is to contribute food or other necessities to the needy.

Currently in its eighth year, CIOSA in association with Chennai Mission, is conducting this year’s Seva Mela at Lady Andal school grounds on 6 and 7 October.

Speaking to News Today, M Mahadevan of Chennai Mission, says,”The programme is conducted as a charity expo where volunteers of various forums would come together and pitch about their respective NGOs to the public. This time too many NGOs are participating and the event would be conducted from 11 am to 2.30 pm at the said premises.”

SKETCH AWAY

Sowmya of Puthir, one of the organisations taking part in the event, says that the members are staging a play with their volunteers titled ‘Kaasu Panam Thuddu Mani Muthu’.

“It is a drama involving two children who come to the city from a village and strive hard. It also shows how they gain happiness and joy by sharing with others”. “There would also be sketching activities and art director Mugilan would be present to entertain the children,” she adds.

MAKE A WISH

Mahadevan said that there would be a giant wish tree at the event where wishes of the 100 NGOs would be stuck. It will be from the beneficiaries of the forums who would intercede for the inmates like getting stationary, bed sheets, adult diapers etc.

COLLECTION DRIVE

Children can pitch in their contribution by giving educational books like dictionaries and atlases. They can also give crayons and soft toys, that are in working condition.

FOOD MELA

Around 10 food trucks would provide the visitors with delicacies and the proceeds from it would be given to charity.
