Indian Airforce celebrates its 86th anniversary

New Delhi: “A grateful nation salutes our valorous air warriors and their families on Air Force Day. They keep our skies safe and are at the forefront of serving humanity in times of disasters. Proud of the Indian Air Force,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulating Indian Airforce on its 86th anniversary.

The Indian Air Force was born in 1932 as the Royal Indian Air Force under then British rule. The name was changed to Indian Air Force in 1950. Over the years, it has strengthened its base and is now one of the most powerful forces to reckon across the globe.

A grand parade cum-investiture ceremony was held at the Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.

The jaw-dropping stunts, air display and acrobatics performed by the Air Force’s various aircrafts including Jaguar, Bison, MiG-29, Mirage-2000 and SU-30 MKI fighter jets as well as Rudra helicopters followed the parade.

The Indian Air Force stands at number four among the air forces around the world. IAF’s primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during an armed conflict. On the occasion, several politicians took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian Air Force.

President Ram Nath Kovind wrote on Twitter: On Air Force Day, we proudly honour our air warriors, veterans, and families of the Indian Air Force. They safeguard our skies with courage and commitment.

Vice president of India Venkaiah Naidu tweeted: On Air Force Day today, I congratulate all the personnel & families of Indian Air Force.

They are second to none in valour & zeal and to secure our airspace. The vital role of the Air Force in relief work during national calamities like floods is immense. #AirForceDay @IAF_MCC.

Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman tweeted: Wishing @IAF_MCC , Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal BS Dhanoa, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, VM, ADC and all officers and air warriors on this day. You are inheritors of a great history and you do us proud.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted: On #AirForceDay I salute the brave men and women of the Indian Airforce. Their valour and commitment is an inspiration for all Indians. Jai Hind.
