Chennai: The Amma library which was supposed to come up at IOB Colony Second Street at Selaiyur in the city suburb a year ago, has not progressed beyond the foundation.
According to sources, the facility, which was planned to be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, has not commenced due to lack of funds.
IOB Colony Residents Welfare Association secretary K Meenakshi Sundaram said the library was supposed to be constructed in an area of 250 square feet.
Speaking to News Today, he said,”When the layout for this area was estimated, this particular plot was allotted for the construction of a reading room, but due to certain reasons, it did not materialise. But after much effort, we began the project last year. The amount was to be raised by donations and with the help of contributions from the association. However, those who promised to fund did not keep their promise, which has caused the delay in the work.” For details, contact 8939169623.
