Chennai: A man murdered his wife suspecting her of infidelity, at their residence in Medavakkam here.

According to the police, Krishnamoorthy (48) and his wife Mahalakshmi (40) lived with their sons Gunal (17) who is pursuing B.Sc Zoology and Trish (16), a class 12 student, at Bharathidasan Street, Medavakkam.

The couple had a love marriage at a church in Karaikal in 2000.

Recently, Krishnamoorthy got a job as a manager at a Chit fund company at Velacheri and Mahalakshmi continued working as a domestic help in houses at Selaiyur, Tambaram and surrounding areas.

The police said Krishnamoorthy always suspected Mahalakshmi of infidelity and the couple often quarreled about it.

Last night, the couple fought as Krishnamoorthy accused her of cheating him. At 11.15 pm, while she was asleep, he stabbed her on the neck with a kitchen knife. Hearing her screams, the sons woke up and tried to stop Krishnamorthy from killing the mother during which Trish sustained injuries on his hand.

After stabbing Mahalakshmi, Krishnamoorthy ran out of the house. However, he later surrendered to the Pallikaranai police.

Mahalakshmi’s body was sent to Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital for post mortem.
