Chennai:Â The sudden strike of private tanker drivers after the Madras High Court’s decision over banning of illegal extraction of groundwater and streamlining groundwater drawal for commercial purposes has severely affected Chennaiites.
To bring the situation under control, Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme Minister S P Velumani convened a meeting with members of CMWSSB (Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) on Monday and ordered to mitigate the crisis arising out on the strike and provide water supply to commercial establishments, hospitals, educational institutions, IT companies and households in multi-storey buildings/gated communities.
A press release from the board said, “CMWSSB has worked out a detailed plan to supply water to the affected consumers from the water filling stations of Metrowater through their own / authorised lorries from 10 pm up to 5 am every day. To avail of this facility, consumers have to furnish a requisition letter with advance payment for a period of one week or more to draw maximum of two loads per lorry, per day and their additional requirement, if any, will be considered in due course.”
