Chennai: The hearing in the special court at the collectorate here, regarding the defamation case against DMK president M K Stalin, has been adjourned to 31 October.

Stalin appeared before the court this morning in connection with a case of defamation and the court exempted him from personal appearance. It also adjourned the hearing to the end of the month.

The court has been constituted to hear cases related to MPs and MLAs.

The prosecution case is that the DMK president spoke ill of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and the AIADMK government in 2012.

Speaking to the media after appearing in court, Stalin said the AIADMK government had slapped seven defamation cases against him.

In one of the cases, it was stated that he had blamed the AIADMK government for the devastating 2015 floods in Chennai. “This case has been slapped for speaking the truth,” he told the mediapersons assembled outside the court.

He added that he was prepared to face any case filed against him and his party.
