In a bid to develop the area, the Choolaimedu Exnora Innovators Club has been organising meetings with residents living in-and-around Choolaimedu, in the city, to discuss different civic issues.
Speaking about this, its secretary, Kasturi Rangan, says, “Our association covers a large area from Arcot Road to Nelson Manickam Road, from Kodambakkam Railway Station to MMDA Colony. We organise meetings regularly and frame ideas to the Corporation to seek solutions to various problems in the locality.”
He says, the main problem the area faces is traffic congestion.
“We proposed a plan earlier to decongest the road here and on Nelson Manickam stretch. We have also suggested an elevated two lane corridor from Loyola College junction that lands at Nelson Manickam Road and Railway Colony Junction under the Smart City plan,” he says, adding that the proposed plan has been taken up for discussion among officials.
About monsoon preparedness, he says that the Corporation and the Metrowater department are doing a good work by stressing on pit recharge and desilting stormwater drains.
“But as far as Choolaimedu is concerned, it is safe as canals in Trustpuram and Virugambakkam are running and invariably in all the streets of the locality, the stormwater drainage has been constructed and there is no stagnation of water,” he points out.
He also says that on 14 November, the association has planned to celebrate World Diabetic Day at Nungambakkam Railway Station, where a free sugar screening camp will be organised.
“We are also planning to organise the camp at Egmore railway station on 11 November,” he adds.
