Chennai: Whenever a patient undergoes an orthopaedic surgery, the question of longevity of the implant is always a puzzle. Experts from all over the world have come up with an alternate solution to address the issue.
Addressing the media here on Friday, Apollo Hospitals senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon Dr Madan Mohan Reddy said, “With usage of materials such as titanium or oxinium lined with niobium, the implants are sure to last longer than any average graft.”
In addition, accuracy in the placement of an implant in orthopaedic surgeries is still is in its nascent stage in India and doctors are taking measures to perform robotic surgeries to improve the quality of life of the patients, he said.
“Though robotic operations have been in practice since 14 years in our country, it is still considered to be new. The biggest advantage is that it helps in navigation and in placing the implant accurately,” said Apollo Hospitals consultant orthopaedic surgeon Dr Kunal Patel.

The press conference was held as part of the second edition of two-day international congress – Apollo COSMIC 2018 that was kicked off on 26 October, and saw the participation of over 400 renowned doctors, physiotherapists, rheumatologists and surgeons from all over the world.
