Chennai: With dengue and swine flu cases once again on the rise in the State, 1.5-year-old Sivasri of Kamarajar Nagar, Choolaimedu, lost her life due to pneumonia.
A pawn broker at Thiruninravur, who was admitted to a private hospital due to ‘mystery fever’, also died. Another death has been reported from Madurai.
Sources from Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children (ICH&HC) told News Today, “The girl child was admitted last night and she was brought dead. The parents also did not tell us anything about the previous treatment.”
Further, the sources clarified that the child died of pneumonia. Measures are being taken at ICH&HC to handle the patients and counsel them if normal fever is recorded, they said.
“Over the last three days, we have received around 59 children with fever and the required treatment is being given. As awareness is being created, people are panicking and are requesting us to admit the patients, though most of them are stable,” added the source.
In addition, around 100 patients from Arakkonam have been reportedly admitted to hospitals and over 80 have been diagnosed with fever in Tiruvallur.
“We have been receiving many out-patients over the last few days and tests for swine flu and dengue have been taken. Treatment for viral fever is being provided to all of them,” said a well-placed source from Vellore Government Hospital.
