CMRL gets ready for festival of lights

Chennai: As the festival of lights, Deepavali is round-the-corner, the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has made special arrangements for the convenience of passengers for reaching their destination hassle-free.

Speaking to News Today, a CMRL spokesperson, said, “We will be plying trains till 11 pm on 2 and 3 November. Secondly, based on the crowd, additional train services will be operated on the two-days. In view of the festival, a short-film on CMRL train maintenance has been uploaded in the internet for public. Passengers can use the links https://youtu.be/ttpn6ONzbNY and https://youtu.be/pZWcwgZcJes for accessing it.”

In addition, CMRL has decorated the interior of its trains on the theme of Deepavali. ‘To celebrate the festival of lights in a unique way, the interiors of our trains have been decorated. The theme-based trains with vibrant colours will run on both the corridors connecting Airport to AG-DMS and St Thomas Mount to Chennai Central. A total of 15 decorated trains have been in operation from Tuesday,” the official said.

The department has also extended its air-conditioned van services to L&T Office and Phoenix Mall from Alandur station in addition to the already existing services to DLF Cyber City.

The CMRL spokesperson, said, “All this time, four vans were plying between Alandur and DLF at an interval of 15 minutes with a flat rate of Rs 20. Now, these vans are running on a different route from Alandur Metro station to DLF via L&T Office with a 15-minute frequency weekdays.”

“During weekend, the same service will take two routes which are from Alandur Metro Station to DLF via L&T Office, Saravana Stores, SRM Easwari Engineering College, back to the station and from Alandur Metro station to Phoenix Mall via ITC Grand Chola, Velachery Main Road, back to station both with a frequency of 30 minutes at a flat rate of Rs 20. The services are available between 6.30 am and 9.30 pm,” he added.

CALL TAXI SERVICES

In a bid to attract more passengers to its fold, CMRL has also introduced its own share-taxi services at AG-DMS station. The new route for the share taxi services is: AG-DMS, Spencer Plaza, Express Avenue, Royapettah Government Hospital, Avvai Shanmugam Road, back to station and is available on call basis. Passengers can use the CMRL customer service number 1860-4251-1515 for booking the share taxi services at a flat rate of Rs 15.
