Chennai: The renovation work of the 42-year-old mutt of Sri Ragavendra Swamy Brindhavanam at Saligramam, in the city, which commenced a couple of months ago, is expected to be completed by this year-end.

The mutt has been one of the prominent spiritual destinations for devotees in and around Saligramam.

Speaking to News Today, one of the committee members, Madhusudhana Rao, said, “The mutt has been a powerful beacon of hope and solace to all the devotees for the past four decades. The mutt, which houses the Brindavanam, also has separate sannadhis for Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy, Sri Anjaneya Swamy, Sri Sakthi Vinayakar and Sri Manchalamma and the Brindhavanam of Sri Raghothama Teertharu.”

After a period of 12 years, Sri Raghavendra Swamy Brindhavanam Committee has decided to perform kumbhabhishekam for all deities in the second half of 2018.

“In addition to the refurbishment of the mutt premises and organising all religious activities to rejuvenate the sanctum sanctorum, the committee has also decided to take upon the task of renovating the mutt complex,” he said.

The mutt has faced a lot of perennial issues in the past few years and so the committee decided to take up the renovation. “For instance, during December 2015 floods, we had water entering our premises. So, to avoid flooding during rainy days, we are going to make significant structural modifications and also increase space for the public,” Madhusudhana Rao said.

They are planning to extend the area for annadhanam as well.

The estimated cost for the project, including kumbhabhishekam, is Rs 2 crore, he said.

“Devotees and philanthropists have been contributing for the noble cause and they see this as an opportunity to make a monumental impact for the mutt which has stood as a significant pillar of faith for all of them over the past many decades,” he said.

The mutt is located at No. 22, Sri Ramar Street, Devaraj Nagar, Saligramam.
