Chennai: Tamilnadu pace bowler M Mohammad became the sixth Tamilnadu bowler to take a hat trick in Ranji Trophy as he achieved the feat against Madhya Pradesh in Round 1 of Ranji Trophy in Dindigul Friday.
For M Mohammad, the hat trick was even more special as he claimed it in his home ground.
Mohammad’s hat trick was spread across two sessions and it also helped restrict Madhya Pradesh’s total to 393.
The game was suspended today owing to rain.
Hailing from a small town, called Chinnalapatti, near Dindigul, Mohammad picked up the sport only when he was 14. He wanted to be a batsman and did not receive any formal training until he was spotted by Dindigul District Cricket Association secretary N Venkatraman. He then trained at the GTN College ground along with his brothers.
He quickly made a name for himself in Dindigul and to enhance his cricket, he joined Purasawalkam, a Fourth Division TNCA club in Chennai, with the aim of making it big as a batsman. However, when he bowled at practice, he was the quickest among his peers and was coached to bowl. He soon leapfrogged from Fourth Division to Third and Second Division, before making it to the India Pistons side in First Division. He made his first-class debut in 2012.
