Chennai: A major fire mishap took place at Kanakammachatram, Tiruttani. According to sources, the incident took place at a car spare parts factory and damaged a lot of property.

It is suspected that an electric leakage in the factory led to the fire. The factory manufactures steering wheels, indicators and switch gears for vehicles.

The fire began spreading at 2 am. Fire and rescue services personnel from Tiruvallur, Thirur, Perumbakkum were pressed into service. Nearly 40 firemen struggled and put out the flames. However, this morning, thick smoke hung over Tirupati highway, making it difficult for commuters to cross the stretch. Kanakammachatram police have registered a case.
