Chennai: A man from Royapettah is battling for his life at Kilapuk Medical College Hospital with 90 per cent burns. Police have registered a case against son for setting his father on fire.
According to the police, the victim, E Shankar of Nayar Varadha Pillai Street is a vegetable vendor and lived with his third son Vijay. His other two other sons – Ramakrishnan and Ramachandran, lived on the pavement in the same street. On Friday night, Shankar in inebriated condition fought with Ramakrishnan. The incident left both of them injured and were treated at Government Royapettah Hospital. Later, they were sent home.
However, this morning at 1.30 am, neighbours heard cries of Shankar and they found him engulfed in fire inside the house, while the door was locked from inside.
Neighbours broke open the door and rushed him to KMC Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. Meanwhile, Vijay has accused that Ramakrishnan set his father on fire to take revenge. Royapettah police have registered a case and picked up both Ramakrishnan and Ramachandran for inquiry.
