Chennai: Actor Vijay and team Sarkar stirred a fresh controversy after they chose to cut a specially baked cake with images of mixer, grinder and the index finger miniatures indicating the importance of voting rights, here last night. The mixer and grinder represent the home appliances provided free of cost to the public by the State government.

Remember, the politically-loaded movie released for Deepavali faced the wrath of the ruling AIADMK as it spoke against the freebies given by them?

Director Murugadoss would appear in a song throwing the freebies into a fire. Also, the movie faced the ire of the AIADMK partymen as the antagonist played by Varalaxmi was named Komalavalli, which is generally believed to be the original name of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

After protests and halting a few shows by the angry partymen, those controversial scenes were removed from the movie.

Sun Pictures, the producers of the film, had released a statement which said the controversial scenes were deleted in the interest of the public who flock to theatres to watch the movie.

The ruling party cadres indulged in violent protests in many theatres resulting in damage to the property and threat to public life, the statement said.

The cake that was cut by Sarkar team.

It also claimed that based on a request from the distributors and theatre-owners, a decision was taken to safeguard the life and property of people who come to watch the movie.

Previously, Murugadoss had appealed in the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail to seek protection from arrest. The court has granted the bail and has ordered that no arrest, if any, can take place till 27 November.

Last night, the film’s music composer A R Rahman posted the get-together pictures on social media and also asked fans to guess whose hand was lighting the candle in the picture. The bracelet on the hand belongs to Vijay and his fans guessed it right.
