TNPSC expresses regret over ‘Periyar question’


The question paper that led to a storm of protests.

Chennai:  The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) today expressed regret over a question on rationalist leader E V Ramasamy, popularly called ‘Periyar’, in its Group II examination that was conducted Sunday.

In a statement, TNPSC secretary and exam control officer Nandakumar said despite the questions being prepared by experts and professors, a mistake has happened in the question on Periyar.
Stating that necessary action would be taken against those responsible for the incident, he said steps would be taken to prevent such issues in future.
They said caste name for Periyar was mentioned in the question paper. The options given for the question on the founder of Thiruchengode Ashram were — E V Ramasamy Naicker, Rajaji, Gandhiji and C N Annadurai.
A total of 4.57 lakh candidates appeared for the Group II examination.
On Sunday, some candidates claimed that all the four options for one of the questions had wrong answers.
