The junction at Ambattur Industrial Estate Main Road has turned into a dangerous zone for motorists and pedestrians alike as traffic police personnel are seldom present on site, leading to unruly motorists wreaking havoc on traffic order.

Despite the junction being well laid, the IE Road is 60 feet in width, the absence of authorities mean motorists do not heed traffic rules, residents stated. However, they added that after recent showers the road is pothole-ridden and the blue metal is now visible to the eye.

“Thousands of motorists use the road to reach various parts of town, including nearby Anna Nagar, Nolambur, Padi, Poonamallee High Road, etc. Of these thousands, the majority are workers who come to the IE for their jobs. So, it is suffice to say vehicular movement is always present and thick at the road,” said Murugan, a motorist.

Further, the IE Main Road is the main gateway for over 20 streets including Vinayakar Koil street, Gandhi Street, Ambedkar Street and Anna Street.

“The problem is that motorists stop abruptly or change lanes, without signalling to others, to get to the fuel station nearby. This is a big problem and things need to be sorted out,” said another motorist Preethi.

Residents from nearby areas stated that repeated complaints to officials have fallen on deaf ears. “It does not take a genius to understand that there are problems here that need to be sorted. However, there seems to be no action from the officials. Maybe they are waiting for the monsoon to get over. However, nothing prevents them from stopping rash driving and doing patch work at the junction,” said Karunakaran, who works at the estate.

“We heard that the Highways Department has promised to take steps. However, time is flying by. Will the department take responsibility for the actions that take place at the junction? We expect relief to come soon,” he added.
