Residents of West Mambalam have reasons to cheer, as the water tank situated at Ellaiamman Koil Street, has started to collect rain water in its fold, thanks to the good work done by various NGOs and Saidapet MLA, Ma Subramanian.
Recently, Young Patriots, an NGO, comprising several youngsters in the area celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi with various other forums, by cleansing the pond area and making it ready to receive rain water.
Speaking on this, Vivekanandan, a youngster who volunteered in the above activity, said, “It was the result of collective efforts of several people, not only from Mambalam, but also from other areas.”
Now, the efforts have borne fruit, as the rain over the last few days was effectively collected in the pond. It is to be noted that MLA Ma Subramanian under whose jurisdiction the pond comes under, implemented the cleansing programme sometime ago, wherein Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly MK Stalin took part.
They have done a good job and saved the waterbody, but there seems to be few hiccups like damaged fencing and dumping of garbage. This is unfortunate, as if it continues, the rain water may get polluted, alerted a social activist here.
