Chennai: The court has always come to the rescue of Inspector General of Police, Idol Wing CID, Pon Manickavel. It did so even on his day of retirement.
The Madras High Court has quashed a Government Order transferring the idol theft cases to the CBI. Instead, it appointed retired IG Pon Manickavel as a Special Officer to continue the probe.
A special division bench of Justice R Mahadevan and Justice P D Audikeasavlu passed the order this morning when the case came up for hearing.
Pon Manickavel retired today from service. However, the court granted him a year more to conduct he probe into the theft of idols.
