Chennai: A convict, condemned to life imprisonment in Cuddalore Central Prison, has got a brief respite from jail time as the court has granted him two-week parole for conjugal visit.
The prisoner, who got the lucky break is Perumal (28) from Tirunelveli. He was awarded life sentence after being found guilty in a murder case. His young wife Muthumaari appealed to the Madras High Court to grant him two weeks’ parole to experience conjugal life.
The case was heard by judges C T Selvam and S Ramathilagam.
The two-judge bench recalled an earlier judgement of the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court which ruled that all prisoners have the right to continue their conjugal life. After listening to the plea from Muthumaari, the court ruled that convict Perumal can be granted parole for two weeks from 15 to 29 December.
The court also ruled that during the parole time, the prisoner should abide by the rules set by the jailors and the officials should ensure the prisoner’s safety. The court has asked the jailors to submit their report before 2 January after enforcing the court’s order.
