Chennai: With Chennai and rest of Tamilnadu yet to receive their fair share of rain this northeast monsoon season, a trough is continuing to bring mild showers especially in coastal and south Tamilnadu. The Met department has now said the trough has moved on to the Arabian Sea. But it might still give rainfall to the State.
An official said, “Friday’s trough of low at mean sea level from Comorin area to southwest Bay of Bengal off south Tamilnadu coast now lies over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean. In the wake of this, light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at many places over coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry and isolated places over interior Tamilnadu in the next 24 hours. In the last 24 hours, Papanasam and Ambasamudram recorded a maximum rainfall of 4 cm each followed by Coonoor, Ayikudi, Tenkasi and Kodaikanal which recorded 1 cm each.”
According to the official, Chennai won’t face any significant rain activity but the sky will remain generally cloudy. “In the last 24 hours, the city recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 31.1 and 21.5 degrees Celsius with minimum temperatures facing a drop of up to 1 degree from normal,” he added.
It is to be noted that Tamilnadu might receive some rain in mid-December due to Madden-Julian oscillation.
