Actor Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice to raise awareness about Cyclone Gaja and the extent of damage it has wreaked on the people of Tamilnadu.

He has urged the socially conscious citizens of India to form a united front and extend their support to the affected people.

Makkal Needhi Maiam party president Kamal Haasan has thanked him by saying, “Thank you Amit ji. You have clearly explained the devastation the Gaja Cyclone has wrecked in Thamizh Nadu. It is always people like you who have been the thread which stitches our country together in spite of all its diversity,” through a tweet.

Kamal Haasan has been using Twitter actively to lend voice to the plight of people affected by Gaja. In his earlier posts, the actor/ politician appealed to all parties in Tamilnadu to forego their political differences and come together for the sake of humanity to the needful for the people affected by Gaja.

Kamal said that all the relief efforts taken till now are just ‘first aid’. He said that ‘full treatment’ should be given for the next eight years to help the people completely recover from Gaja’s destruction.

Two weeks after cyclone Gaja hit the coastal regions of Tamilnadu, people are still camping in temporary shelters, all along the main roads in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur, waiting for relief materials.

The three districts which were majorly affected by Gaja are part of the Cauvery delta region and it provides food for the entire State. Agriculture is the main source of income for people living in these areas.
