Chennai: For meme creators from the south, the BJP has always been troll material. Adding spice to their creativity was the beating the party is taking in the Assembly polls in five states, of which four are from north India. It has acted as a trigger to flood social media with memes since morning.
Already, the BJP has been struggling to get a toehold in the southern States, with Tamilnadu and Kerala being anti-BJP; while Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, too, have non-BJP governments. Today, the results of the polls in five states, including Telangana, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, have added them to the anti-BJP club.
So, it was a busy day for the meme creators who were searching for templates carrying renowned comedians Vadivelu, Goundamani and Senthil to take a dig at the BJP.
One of the memes trolled Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is shown as being angry with the reaction of the people and deciding to demonetise Rs 2,000 bank notes. In that meme, Vadivelu is seen in place of Modi and yelling at the people.
CHANDRAMUKHI DIALOGUE
In another meme, Vadivelu’s famous dialogue in Chandramukhi, ‘Sothulayum adi vaangiyaachu, sethulayum adi vaangiyaachu‘ was replaced by the caption, ‘South la yum adi vaangiyaachu, north la yum adi vaangiyaachu‘ to mean BJP that was already weak in the south and was now losing even in the north.
SOONA PAANA PANCHAYAT
Recalling the allegations that the BJP was manipulating EVMs during the previous elections, one of the memes, carrying the famous Soona Paana Panchayat scene template made fun of the ruling party in the Centre.
NAME CHANGER
There was a meme that showed an imaginary phone call between Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Since Yogi is already popular among meme creators for renaming cities and towns in his State, the meme showed Yogi suggesting Modi rename the Congress as BJP so that it would be an easy way to taste victory.
KUTTY RAHUL
The Congress is set to win in three out of the five States that went to polls which has become a very positive sign for the party. Though they lost the elections in the only northeast state where they had been ruling for decades, Mizoram, to MNF, there was enough glorification of Rahul Gandhi on social media as well, for winning against the BJP. A meme with the latest trend using the character Kutty 3.0 from Rajinikanth’s 2.0 was also shared by many with Rahul Gandhi being shown as 3.0 and Modi, as Pakshi Rajan, the super villain from the movie, who loses to the microbot.
