Chennai: After poor show of Northeast monsoon, hope for rain has revived again as Met Department said the well marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone and will cross Tamilnadu coast.

A Met official, said, “The well-marked low pressure area over central parts of south Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean now lies over southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours and intensify further into a deep depression. It is also very likely to move towards south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamilnadu coasts during next 72 hours thereby becoming a cyclone in the process, which will be named as Pethai.”

“In wake of this, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to start occurring at isolated places over north coastal Tamilnadu and Puducherry from 15 December onwards. Meanwhile, Chennai remained dry with a rise in temperature up to 2 degrees from normal. While in the last 24 hours, maximum temperature was 31.3 degrees Celsius, minimum temperature was 22.9 degrees Celsius,” the Met official said.
