Chennai: To facilitate immediate medical care for residents in suburbs, a new trauma ward is being set up at the Government Hospital in Chrompet.
It may be noted that until now, residents here had to travel all the way to Chengalpattu or the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Park Town, during emergencies.
Taking note of the situation, Pallavaram MLA, I Karunanithi, said, “The hospital was inaugurated during the reign of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and did not see any major developments in the past few years. During the monsoon, the facility gets flooded and patients would be directed to RGGGH. To accommodate them and to offer quality healthcare services, I appealed to fellow members in the Assembly and brought the focus to suburban GH.”
“The request was approved by the State Department for Family and Welfare and necessary measures were taken for the benefit of people,” added the MLA.
The project has been implemented at a cost of Rs 10 crore, and sources from the hospital said, around Rs 4 crore has been spent on acquiring the instruments for the ward. The facility is said to be two-floored with the ground one for parking, it is learnt.
Speaking on this, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Inbavalli said, “The construction is nearing completion, with 70 per cent of the equipment already being bought by the Tamilnadu Medical Services department. Facilities for CT Scan, digital X-Ray and an ICU, are also being set up.”
