Chennai: Heavy rain, accompanied by squally winds, are likely to lash north Tamilnadu and coastal Puducherry as the deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal would intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 36 hours.
Met office today said it moved west-northwestwards and lay centered over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal about 470 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 730 km east-south east of Chennai and 930 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam.
It is very likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and into a severe cyclonic storm in the subsequent 24 hours.
It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada on Monday afternoon.
Under its influence, rainfall would occur at many places with heavy rain in some places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas of north coastal Tamilnadu from this evening.
Squally winds, with speeds reaching 45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph, are likely to blow along and off Andhra Pradesh, North Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts from this evening.
Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph will prevail over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to increase gradually and become gale wind speed reaching 60-70 and kmph gusting to 80 kmph over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and 80-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal for two days from tomorrow.
The sea condition is very rough over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. The sea condition is very likely to be high over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and high to very high over west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.
It is expected to become rough to very rough along and off south Andhra Pradesh and North Tamilnadu coast and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in these areas and also north Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts for two days from tomorrow.
Those out in the deep sea areas, have been advised to return to the coast.
