Chennai: Zee 5 recently announced a line-up of eight Tamil Originals that includes a combination of web series and movies, that will soon be released through the OTT platform. This move is aimed at strengthening the Tamil content offering in the platform.

Totally there are six web series – What’s up Velakkari, Postman, Thiravam, Auto Shankar, Mitta and Alarm. The platform will also be releasing three original movies that include Director Balaji Dharanitharan’s Oru Pakka Kadhai starring Kalidas Jayaram and Megha Akash in the lead, Kalavu starring Kalaiyarasan and Sigai starring Kathir. The trailers of all the three films were launched during the event.

Speaking during the event, Business Head, Zee 5 India, Manish Agarwal said “South India is an important market for us. We already have a huge consumer base in Telugu and we started one-year before in Tamil. OTT is something that is still new for the audience here. But we are confident that with our originals lined up for them, the response will only keep getting better.”

“I am part of one of Indias’s first OTT platform Yupp TV. We started doing a lot of originals in Tamil and Telugu and we are happy to have partnered with Zee 5. For filmmakers who are struggling to release their films in theatres, OTT is the platform to get exposure and with Zee 5 coming into the market, it is a blessing as it has a huge audience base. We look forward to presenting many more contents in the coming years,” says the director, creative contents, Yupp Tv, Vijay Adhiraj.

Director Balaji Dharanidharan who was waiting to release his Oru Pakka Kadhai for more than a year said that he is finally happy to release the movie through the OTT platform. “I was waiting for this moment and excited to launch the movie through Zee 5. I am sure the movie would reach a lot of audiences.”

About the movie Sigai, actor Kathir said, “The movie has garnered huge expectations right from the release of its first look. We are happy to release it in the OTT platform. Sigai is an experimental film and Zee 5 is the best platform to release such films. We are confident that the movie would relay out to a much larger audience and I am sure in future more people would come forward to release such films through this platform.”
