Chennai: “Achievement of Tamilnadu in the field of education is exemplary and it has recorded low drop-out rates and there is a teacher for every 40 students. There has also been a rise in the number of arts and science colleges across the State and women pursuing higher education accounts for half of the total count,” said Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
Addressing the students of Shrimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt (SDNB) Vaishnav College for Women during the golden jubilee celebration at Chrompet, Monday, he spoke on the need for having practical knowledge, staying alert, abiding by moral values and time management.
Education in colleges should lay stress on inculcating moral values and a national spirit in students, he added.
College joint secretary Nimish C Tolia said, “The plan of action for this golden jubilee year is to introduce new courses like Part I – Foundation course French, B.Sc Psychology, B.Com Professional Accounting, M.Com Corporate Secretaryship and M.Phil Computer Science. In addition, a new college anthem, campus radio, mobile application for staff and wall newspaper are to be introduced during the year.”
The in-house journal of the college, ‘Vaish,’ was released during the occasion.
College chairman Mamta D Bhatt, secretary Chandrakanth M Tolia and principal R Geetha were present.
