Members of All India BSNL Pensioners’ Welfare Association from Chennai and Tamilnadu circle jointly organised Gaja relief progrmme 4 December.
A 30-member team consisting of BSNL pensioners aged 70 and above gave relief materials like two sarees, two peticot, two lungis, two towels, two bedsheets, one mosquito net, one nylon mat, 10 kg rice, napkin, rusk, candles, matchboxes, eatables, etc., to each of the 400 families living in the worst affected villages of Pattukottai, Adiramapattinam, Muthupet, Vedaranyam and Tiruthuraipoondi.
The materials were worth Rs 8 lakh. The team consisted of the association State president V Rama Rao, who is based out of Nanganallur, secretary R Venkatachalam, Chennai Telephones secretary S Thangaraj, treasurer M Kannappan and Thanjavur secretary V Saminathan who made the initiative a success.
While TANGEDCO is striving hard to restore power supply, still many places are without electricity. The six lakh tarpaulins announced by the State government is yet to arrive and many people are roofless. BSNL Thanjavur General Manager, for his part, has ordered restoration of optical fibre cables.
