Jayalalithaa’s guard appears before enquiry panel

Chennai: Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s personal security guard Perumalswamy today appeared before the probe panel lead by retired judge A Arumughaswamy which is investigating the death of the former AIADMK supremo.

Sources said several questions such as when Jayalalithaa was admitted in the hospital, what was he doing at that time, was he able to see her in hospital were asked to Perumalswamy.

It may be noted that Perumalswamy is at present the security officer for Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Yesterday Peter Jones, the former owner of Kodanadu estate in Nilgiris which was later frequented by Jayalalithaa appeared before the Arumughaswamy commission.

The probe is said to have reached the final stages and former AIADMK Minister C Ponnaiyan and Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, summoned by the commission, marked their attendance on 18 December. Radhakrishnan had already deposed before the panel 14 December.

Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, who was also asked to appear before the commission, gave it a skip. He had informed the commission that he had prior personal commitments and would not be able to make an appearance. According to reports, the commission would issue fresh summons to the Health Minister to appear before it.
